Theory of Cold Molecules : Structure, Dynamics, Reactivity (English Version)

Welcome to the homepage of the Theomol team ! Our research consists in the development of theoretical, methodological and numerical methods to study the structure and dynamics at very low energies of atoms and small molecules in gas phase, as well as their interactions with electromagnetic fields.

Last news :

The Theomol team is composed by six permanent members, Nadia Bouloufa, Olivier Dulieu (team leader), Maxence Lepers, Goulven Quéméner, Maurice Raoult, Romain Vexiau, as well as two emeritus researchers, Anne Crubellier and Eliane Luc, and two PhD students, Humberto Da Silva Jr and Adrien Devolder.

The subjects tackled by the group include the formation, dynamics and control of atoms and simple molecules in thermal and quantum gases, as well as more complex systems such as triatomic molecules and molecular ions. Such few-body systems are prototypes both for theoretical models and experimental projects. The ultimate goal of such research is to achieve a complete control of such few-body systems using external electromagnetic fields, which would be accomplished through a detailed knowledge of their structure and dynamics.

One essential aspect of our team’s activity is to approach such problems both from the "structure" point of view, using quantum-chemistry and asymptotic methods, and the "dynamics" point of view, using a number of different approaches including DVR-grid methods, coupled-channel (time-independent) methods, multi-channel quantum defect theory and time-dependent wave-packet propagation methods. The development of these two complementary approaches, structure and dynamics, is one of the essential assets of our team and each year leads to several publications, the establishment of new collaborations, and offers for PhD theses, postdoctoral and Master studies.
